如何解決市場痛點 | RESPONSE TO MARKET PAIN POINTS:

Utilizing large-scale renewable energies is the key to achieving carbon neutrality. However, the renewable powers like solar and wind is naturally unstable and intermittent. An energy storage system (ESS) is essential to overcome the intermittency of renewables. The scale of battery for ESS will be tremendous for utilization of renewable energy in the near future. Yet, commercial Li-ion battery energy storage faces issues like flammability, limited life cycles and increasing cost, making it not an ideal candidate for large-scale ESS.

 

The novel flow battery technology innovated by our team employs aqueous electrolytes, which is inherently inflammable. The battery is made from earth-abundant elements as active materials, which is low-cost and eco-friendly. The novel highly selective ion-exchange membrane developed by the team greatly promotes the charge-discharge life cycle of the aqueous flow battery to thousands of cycles. The estimated battery lifetime is over 15 years, which doubles the lifetime of Li-ion batteries. We aim to provide a secure, low-cost, and eco-friendly battery solution to accelerate the progress of carbon neutrality.

 

可再生能源是實現碳中和的必經之路,要克服風電、光伏等可再生能源不穩定的問題,電力儲存技術是可再生能源的大規模應用的關鍵。在不遠的未來,當我們的電力系統全面轉向可再生能源,可再生能源配套的儲能電池規模將空前龐大。已經商業化的鋰電池技術面臨易燃易爆、循環壽命有限、成本高昂的問題,並不是大規模儲能系統的理想選擇。

 

本團隊自主創新的液流電池技術,以不可燃的水系電解液為基礎,實現了本徴安全;活性材料採用地表豐富的元素製成,因此可以實現低成本和環境友好。團隊創造的新型離子交換膜,可以有效阻止電池內部的交叉污染,實現了數千圈充放電循環無容量衰減,將電池的使用壽命提升至15年以上,達到鋰電池的2倍。我們致力於提供廉價,環境友好的儲能技術,實現碳中和的永續發展。
