Foster Worldwide is the pioneer in Hong Kong to launch the Virtual Global Internship Program, advocating for the United Nations SDG 4 on Quality Education.
In this program, youngsters aged 15 to 24 will be matched with an overseas company (ranging from social enterprises to big corporations) with a 90-hour placement opportunity. Via virtual methods such as email, instant messaging and phone conversations, companies can outsource their daily tasks to young leaders and students are required to report to their supervisors on a regular basis.
Apart from that, online career advancement training and career guidance/advice through a mentorship program would be provided by Foster Worldwide’s young professionals and corporate supervisors to equip interns with crucial work skills and increase the real-time interaction among the parties. Upon completion of the internship, interns will have not only a recommendation letter and internship program certificate but also an evaluation report on their work performance suggesting which areas they can further improve or develop. Underprivileged students with outstanding performances will even receive scholarships.
Virtual Global Internship allows young talents to gain overseas exposure, equip themselves with future skills and extend their professional network in a much more affordable and flexible way. Given that proficiency in the use of technology has been identified as one of the core skills in the 21st century, interns can earn practical experience as they have to use various digital tools to communicate and complete various job tasks during the internship.
Youth unemployment has become a worldwide phenomenon that many youngsters find it difficult to make the transition from school to work. With technological advancement, the labor market has been shaped into one that is more cost-conscious, volatile, knowledge-based, and constantly changing. Young people with less work experience, job skills and career advice are more vulnerable to unemployment.
With an aim to solve this global social issue, Foster Worldwide has launched the first-ever Virtual Global Internship Program in Hong Kong. Youngsters will be offered an internship with an overseas company, online vocational training and career guidance from Foster Worldwide and their supervisors. Upon completion of their internship, they will have not only a recommendation letter but also an evaluation report on their work performance suggesting which areas they can further improve or develop. Underprivileged students with outstanding performances will even receive scholarships.
We have so far successfully collaborated with more than 170 companies from over 60 countries and cities to provide placement and training for 5,000 youths worldwide to boost their employability. Our partners include corporates (such as Wluper – London (Forbes 30 Under 30), Strategy Sprints GmbH – Vienna (Forbes 30 Under 30), Founder Institute – USA, Spinel Advisory – France, universities and NGOs – One Young World and United Nations Global Compact.
